Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Sunday, March 08, 2009 Angela asks

Q: Is an elongated lump that is rubbery breast cancer?

I had a sharp blow to my breasts. I was left with an elongated lump on one breast.  The doctor said it felt rubbery but didn't move. I'm going for a diagnostic test. Should I believe this is cancer??

Angela, a blow to the breast doesn't cause breast cancer. It can, however, cause scar tissue, that can both feel like a tumor, and look like a tumor on a mammogram. So no, I don't think you should believe this is cancer. I DO think you should get it checked out, though, so be sure to keep the appointment for that diagnostic test, OK? Good luck - PJH
