I have a hard round ball-shaped lump, attached to my breast plate.

Topics:Breast Lump

A couple of weeks ago, I found a hard, round, ball or colliflower shaped lump on my chest plate at the beginning of my right breast. I can move it a little, but it appears to be attached to my chest plate, or ribs, or whatever is inside there. When I lean over while feeling it I can feel that it goes deeper. There is no redness, no raised skin, it can't be a psychotic in grown hair so what is it? There are no other bumps in my breasts, and I'm twenty-three and no one in my family has had breast cancer. Should I be worried?

Hi - Kudos to you for being aware of changes in your breasts, at such a young age. Yes, you're very young to be thinking about breast cancer, and that's almost certainly not what this lump is. However, the only way to discover what it is will be having it examined by a doctor. So best to call and make an appointment, OK? Good luck - PJH

Hi - It's quite possible this lump you are feeling could be a fibroid or cyst, though the only true way to rule out cancer is to see your doctor and have it checked out with a mammogram and ultrasound.

Most people beleive that breast cancer is very uncommon in women under 40, but that's just not true anymore.  Women are being diagnosed in their 30's now more than ever before and some even in their 20's - perhaps cause we're being more proactive with the breast exams!

Though it is unlikely that this is cancer, you'll never know for sure unless you see your doctor to have it checked.

Good luck to you.  Please keep us posted!
