Q: Can skin cancer spread to breasts cancer?

Can skin cancer spread to breast cancer? I have had cervical cancer and had so many traumatic medical experiences associated with that, that I am now petrified to go to the doctor. I have had medical opinions about some spots on my skin may be cancer, I have been having rather uncomfortable breast soreness and wonder if maybe I am just too late. I am a 40 year old woman who had to have a hysterectomy at the age of 27, and have no medical insurance and can't possibly afford it.

Hi - No, skin cancer can't become breast cancer. But please read our post on breast pain, for information about what might be causing your breast soreness. If you believe that this pain may be related to breast cancer (unlikely, but a possibility), then please read our post on mammograms for underserved women, to find out where you can get a free diagnostic mammogram. Good luck - PJH

While skin cancer doesn't turn into breast cancer, it can be just as deadly if left untreated.  Please check with the social worker at your local hospital about possible resources for paying for your treatment.  You could also ask your doctor about payment plans to find out if those spots are cancer.  The cost of removing the spots and having them biopsied will be much less than the cost of chemotherapy, radiation, or major surgery if you have a skin cancer that spreads.
