Hi - With a family history of breast cancer (mother or sister or daughter who's had it), you should avoid HRT completely. However, if you're really struggling and are willing to take a chance, ask your doctor for the lowest possible dose of HRT, taken for the least amount of time to be effective. You could also try an antidepressant (e.g., Effexor), which often helps women quell their flashes. Good luck - hope you feel better soon! PJH
It's tough, I know. Your metabolism slows way down during menopause, and you can eat the same diet, do the same exercise as always, and gain weight like crazy. GRRRRRR... More exercise - less calories is really the only thing that'll help. Trust me, we ALL gain weight during menopause. It's not a happy time! Sorry - PJH

i really am concerned about my weight. I have gained 13 lbs. in 2 months and stay hungry all the time. I don't snack between meals and I don't think I'm eating anymore than usual but the weight keeps coming. I try to walk at least 3 times a week but nothing helps. I am 5'1" and 163 lbs. What do you suggest?
