Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Q: Expander Info (wish it came sooner for me)

When I seen my PS last visit he said that they can now attach the expander to the tissue. I dont know about other ladies out there but my expanders move into spots that bug me. Sometimes its in my armpit, sittin high, sittin low,man it would have been nice to have em in one spot. So I hope they are doing this everywhere not just Arizona.

Hi Kim!

I sooooo know what you mean!  This set of expanders have been in place now since February (my cancer returned and reconstruction has since been put on hold for treatment.)  My left sits low and nearly under my arm - it is killing me!  It pushes on my rib and is causing me to have to resort to sports bras to help aleviate the discomfort.  My right sits up and in - creating a uni-boob almost.  My PS and I have had many discussions about this.  He's always telling me to rub or push them into the right place - but I say it's hard to try to move something that sits beneath your muscle.  I know once I get back on track he will build pockets for my implants, but waiting 4 months or more for it to happen is killing me!

I hope that building pockets is a standard thing everywhere and if not I hope that anyone with expanders knows enough about them to ask - cause the shifting really sucks.

Hang in there.  I'm sure you'll be done in no time.  Just remember how far you've come.  That is what keeps me from yelling "take them out!"

Good luck!

Angi

My PS put in alloderm which keep the expanders in place...it is a fairly new thing, so the breast tissure expands where it is supposed to....they sew it into the muscle....google it.  Most likely too late as yours have already been done....It is all such a painful process, but I'm trying to be thankful that the cancer is gone...feel free to e-mail me.

My PS put in Alloderm so they wouldn't move around.....a fairly new thing, but equally annoying and painful
