Hi Lee: First of all, take heart - I take Arimidex, and haven't experienced any of what you mentioned! Remember that drug makrs have to list all the POSSIBLE side effects, unusual though they may be. Not every woman gets every side effect; some don't get any, some get a lot, and most of us get our own "special selection."
Arimidex has been shown to be REALLY effective at preventing recurrence, so hopefully your wife takes it without too many issues. Myself, the only thing that's bothered me is loss of bone density, which I'm loading up on vitamin D and calcium for; and joint pain. I feel like an 80-year-old (I'm 54) when I get up in the morning, but as soon as I get going - treadmill, a brisk walk, whatever - that abates quickly.
There are other mild side effects, but frankly, I'm not sure if they're from the Arimidex, aging, menopause, long-lasting chemo effects, or what! They're all just part of the cancer aftermath, and you learn to live with whatever you're feeling, because the key word is LIVE.
Good luck to you and your wife both - and congratulations to her for completing her active treatment. WHEW! - PJH
