Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 Carrie asks

Q: I have a hard lump under my left arm pit; is this cancer?

I noticed this lump laying down on Sunday.  It is now Tuesday and I feel like the lump is bigger.  It is hard and seems really weird shaped although I can see it.  It is under my skin.

Hi Carrie: Breast/armpit lumps can be a number of things; a cyst, a fibroadenoma, an infection, some other fibroid-type issue... or a tumor, benign or cancerous. There's just no telling till you get it examined. So best to call the doctor and make an appointment. Don't panic, though; the vast majority of breast/armpit lumps are due to some other cause. Good luck - PJH
