sharp tenderness

Last night when I took my bra off to go in the shower, my breasts felt heavier like I am getting ready for a period, (2 weeks time). I didn't worry about this as it happens often. But my left breast had a sharp tender pain that is totally new. I felt around for a sign for a lump and all I got was tenderness. This went on until I fell asleep and then this morning the tenderness is the same. When I put my bra back on it takes the sharpness away but I feel a warmth. I have an OB/GYN appointment annual exam for next month, should I re-schedule for an earlier on? Am I worrying about nothing?

Elizabeth, unless the pain and warmth develops into something pretty dramatic - a swollen, red, painful, perhaps itchy breast - you've probably just got some hormonal issues going on. Breast cancer isn't usually signalled by pain or heaviness or tenderness. I'd wait and see if it disappears with your next period. And in the meantime, take a look at my current post on breast cancer symptoms - and why what you describe probably ISN'T a symptom. Good luck! - PJH
