Hi - It's wise to get breast changes checked at any age, but especially at our age, as breast cancer becomes more of a possibility. What you describe could be an infection, or it could be a rare form of breast cancer called inflammatory breast cancer. Either way, you need to get it checked soon, OK? No need to be in pain when you can find out what's causing it and get it treated. Good luck - PJH

Hello, I am having the EXACT same symptoms. I went to the Dr 2 days ago and left almost in tears, I had to see another Dr that I have never seem before and I really felt she was very cold. She did order an MRI but waiting to get my insurance to ok it. I am in severe pain and would like to see my Dr but apparently it takes forever to get an appt with him. I would appreciate any advise as I am starting to get very upset but trying to stay calm. Thank you!

And... I'm 50 years old, had a hysterectomy 15 years ago and have taken premarin ever since.

You might try going to the emergency room or walk-in clinic - not sure what insurance implications this would have, but if you have an infection, you need to get it treated ASAP, not wait for a regular doctor's appointment. What did either of the first two doctors think?

If your breast is red, hot, painful/itchy, or shows any signs of dimpled skin, this could be an early sign of inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). And while this diagnosis would be highly unlikely (please don't stress too much), you do need to have it ruled out, if you're showing any of those symptoms.

Good luck - I hope you get some help very soon. PJH

I have only seen one Dr so far, the partner/wife to my regular GYN, she really did not give me any direction. I asked about fibroids and she just said yes, that could be. She said I have very dense breast tissue as she looked at my last mammogram from last February. The pain is awful and feel very discouraged, thank you for listening as I am very frustrated.

If there's no swelling/redness, etc., then you could very well be suffering from fibrocystic change, which can be very painful indeed. Next time you see someone, raise the possibility of an ultrasound to identify whether you have a cyst. And in the meantime, many women have found relief from fibrocystic pain by cutting out caffeine; if you're a coffee or tea drinker, you might try that. Sorry you're having to go through this - PJH

Then you need to get someone responsible/knowledgeable to look at it and take your symptoms seriously. Sounds like a trip to the ER might be in order... As I said, if this is an infection, there's no sense letting it get a firmer and firmer hold. I hope you get some help soon - PJH
