Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 Leandra asks

Q: MRS

I took 3 birth control tablets in my life.  1 tablet for 3 days after my eldest daughter was born, now 29 years old.  I then had a blood clot in my upper right thigh.  I used a tablet called Tavern SP 54 for a period of 2 years after her birth for prevention of blood clots.  My gynocologist warned me to never take any hormone tablets as it would clot my blood and so at the age of 49, I have never taken "The Pill" or any other estrogen or progesterone tablets.

Today  09/03/2010, I visited my gynocologist with a severe pain on the lower left side of my stomach.  He did a scan and identified a huge cyst.  I had a hystorectomy in April 2008.

He prescribed Provera 5mg tds for 7 days, AFTER I told him that I cannot use any hormone tablets, for the treatment of the cyst.

Is it save to take the tablets with such a history?

Mrs. Smith

Sorry, Leandra, this is a breast cancer site, staffed by breast cancer survivors, not medical personnel. I'd suggest you ask your doctor about this, OK? good luck - PJH
