Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Thursday, December 17, 2009 Sandy asks

Q: Giving away a book for free "12 Step guide to survive a mastectomy"

I purchased the book "Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This: A Twelve Step Guide to Surviving a Mastectomy". I already finished and would like to give it to someone else that will also have a mastectomy.

The book has mind excersises that teach you how to see the bright side of things, how to be positive and how to start accepting your new body.

I read it in 4 hours, this mornign from 4 am to 7 am.. yes, anxiety does not let me sleep. My masectomy will be on december 31.. hope to share this book with someone who can read it, learn from it and passs it along.

Just send me a mailing address and the book is yours.  For free.. just pass it along to another cancer patient when you finish.

Bless you for sharing.  I would love to read it.  My husband gave me two wonderful books for XMas on surrviving Breast cancer. Very thoughtful of him.  My double Masectomy is comig up Tues.  I have a 1 & 3 year old.  If I can come away from reading a book with one real world tip tht makes my life better in some way, it will have been worth reading. :)

Hi

yes, i doing the reconstruction.  I has been almost 3 months after my bitateral mastectomy, and i feel just tine.  Like nothing had happened.  Don't take me wrong, i had 2 months of a lot of pain and difficult times, but the last 4 weeks have been of real recobery even though I have the tissue expanders.

My breast looks great, even with the expanders.  I guess the final implants are going to be great.

I was lucky and my cancer was found very early (DCIS less than a pea size) so i will not need quimo or ratiation.

The doctor says that the worst is behind.  I just hope it does not comes back.

All the best wishes and thank you so much for asking about me.

Today is probably going to be the worst of it for you. Last night was my first day home and I am not going to lie. It was rough. The best advise I got was set an alarm so the drugs don't wear off once you are at home. I wish you the best. Hopefully your hospitals food was better than mine. You won't feel like doing much but once you are up and around, my address is Christine Gagne, 626 Church Ave, Casco, Wi 54205. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Reply
