Q: Side effect of taking Provera 5 mg for longer time?

My menstrual cycle is irrergular. A doctor suggested me to take Provera 5 mg. I am taking Provera for 5 days 2 pills/day. And once I stop taking, withing 5-7 days I am getting my cycle. Then I wait for another 30 days from the my first day of period started. If in 30 days I don't get my periods, again I am taking Provera for 5 days. I am taking Provera from last 5-6 months and doctor asked me to continue it forever. Is there any harm of taking this medicine for such longed period? We are planning for baby as well.
