Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Wednesday, August 13, 2008 HeatherW asks

Q: I recenently found a small lump in my left breast.

I found this about 2 months ago. I waited until after my period thinking it would go away. Some of the pain went away for a couple of days but now its preasent again when touched.  Theres also a radiating burning sensation from the lump over the top of my breast. I'm a little sceptical about going to the dr. I guess i'm scared they will think I was wasting there time if it turns out to be no big deal. I really just need someone expericened in this to talk to.

Heather, pain is not something that's usually associated with breast cancer. However, a lump that doesn't disappear is definitely something that should be checked out. DO NOT, please, think you're wasting anyone's time! Noticing breast changes is the absolute #1 way we protect ourselves against breast cancer. So bravo to you for noticing - now you have to do something about it! Understand that the vast majority of breast lumps are NOT cancer. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't get it checked out and identified. So call the doctor, make the appointment - and good luck! PJH
