Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Q: Breast cancer?? Please help!

I'm 20 years old and I found a solid bump not on my breast or armpit but it is on the right side of my chest and very close to my underarm(not exacly on the armpit). It gets irritating when I move my arm and yesterday when I woke up i had a hard time breathing since it felt like something solid hit me on my chest. It is breast cancer? No one in my family ever had breast cancer although my mom's uncle had lung cancer. Another thing I recently noticed is that my breasts are not of the same size. Should I be worried or it's normal? I checked it with my doctor a week ago and I told her that it sometimes irritates me when I move my arm but she said that it's probably because of the posture I sleep. The bump doesn't hurt-it just gets into the way when I have to move my arm and take deep breaths. And also I have visible blue viens on the right side of my right breast which feels like a lump but I guess they are just veins--but is it normal that they hurt if I press them lightly?

Hi - Thankfully, none of this sounds like breast cancer symptoms; and lung cancer in the family doesn't put you at any increased risk. AND 20 is VERY young for breast cancer; almost unheard-of. Visible blood vessels, even painful ones, don't signify cancer; nor does one breast being bigger than the other, unless it happens suddenly and your breast seems infected: red, swollen, hot/itchy. So that leaves us with the lump. Even if it's not in your breast or armpit, if you say it's on your chest, that's close enough. Despite everything pointing to this not being cancer, I think you should figure out what it is. It appears to be giving you a certain amount of discomfort, both physical and emotional (stress). So please go back to your doctor, and say you want some further testing to figure out what's causing this pain and lump. Once they figure it out, you may be able to get some relief, too. Good luck - PJH
