Is it okay to take prometrium 100mg every night for previous uterine hyperplasia?

Pam Drobny

Two years ago, a pelvic ultrasound revealed an 18mm uterine lining. Biopsies have all been benign. Since then I have been taking the Prometrium 100 mg every night along with estratest hs. My ultrasound now shows a lining within normal limits. Your site did not say anything about taking Prometrium every day. I am post menopausal (age 58) so do not have a cycle to take the drug on day 12-28 as sited. I have started to taper off by taking both meds every other night but have noticed the night sweats returning occasionally. I am concerned about continuing this regime due to possible side effects. Mammograms have all been normal.

Thanks,

Pam

Hi Pam: This is a breast cancer site, so wouldn't be comfortable advising about uterine issues. I do know that progesterone (Prometrium) increases your risk of breast cancer, so if you're gong to contineu to take it, be diligent about knowing what your breasts feel and look like normally, noticing any changes, and reporting changes to your doctor. Good luck - PJH
