Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 Meesh asks

Q: Has anyone had problems with the Estring "staying put" after a total hysterectomy (including cervix)

My oncologist and my gynecological surgeon both rx'd the Estring.  I have ER+++++++++++++++Stage IV metastatic BC with Bone mets.  I have had a total hysterectomy including cervix.  I am inserting the ring at the back third of the vagina.  Within a few steps out of the bathroom the ring has slid down to the opening of the vagina.  Any ideas/experiences? I can tell that I have it all the way back. Could I have that much atrophy after only 6 months?

Hello Meesh,

Although I'm not sure about how common it is for ESTRING® to not "stay put," according to the safety information section of the Pfizer website:

"ESTRING is contraindicated in women with...known, suspected, or history of cancer of the breast..."

I thought you'd like to know.  - MG
