Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Tuesday, December 07, 2010 Cindy asks

Q: I recently (5 days ago) underwent my first round of chemo (adriamycin/cytoxan) treatment and have since been worrying about the eventual hair loss that I am learning will definitely happen.

Does anyone have any suggestions for easing my anxiety?  Will my hair really fall out?

Yes, Cindy; sorry to say, your hair will fall out, and possibly all over your body: eyebrowns, eyelashes, underarm, leg, pubic... So best to start getting used to it. Please read our post on getting ready for hair loss; I think you'll find it helpful. And, understand that millions of us have gone through this, and we've made it' our hair has come back, and life goes on. It's absolutely tough going through it, but waiting is the hardest part; once your hair's gone, you accept it, learn to cope, and move forward. Remember, every step you take, you're that much closer to being through treatment and back on the road to health. Best of luck to you - PJH
