Friday, January 09, 2009 New mum asks

Q: I'm 23 years old and have had lump in my left breast throughout pregnancy..

I thought it could be due to hormone changes because of the pregnancy but i gave birth 2 months ago to a beautiful little girl and the lump is still there.. :( could it be cancerous?

Hi - Having breast cancer at your age would be incredibly, incredibly rare. But anytime you find a new lump in your breast, and it doesn't go away, you should have it checked. It could be any number of things, most of which are NOT cancer. So, just for the sake of due diligence, best to make an appointment, OK? Good luck - PJH
