Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Tuesday, May 13, 2008 m. asks

Q: slight burning sensation?

I have a slight burning sensation in an area where I have an emlarged lymph gland. I am getting a core biopsy on Fri., but is burning something that is symptomatic of anything? Also, does a needle core biopsy leave a scar? Thanks for any feedback, M.

Have you had any recent surgeries?  Often that burning, painful feeling can be a result of irratated nerve endings.  I know after each of my breast surgeries (there has been about a dozen!) that I've had burning, tingling sensation in odd places (down the back of my arm, my chest, my side) It all depends on if you have had any procedures done that may have upset them.

To answer your ? on needle core biopsy - After the procedure you can expect some bruising, but should be mild.  I would say no more of a scar than getting an IV.

Hope that helps!

I had breast cancer about 3 years ago, and had a lumectomy on my right breast. The surgeon took out 1 or 2 lympnodes . I have had a few pains when I move a certain way with my right side of my upper body. And now in the past week I am having burning pains off and on, through the right breast I had a lumectomy.

I don't know if this is normal? Or because my Mom passed away suddenly at my home, after she was in the hospital 30 days for a UTI. She was discharged on Jan. 2-2010, and came to my home to live. And she died here on the 4th day suddenly!

I have been stressed, grieving, and at the same time trying to keep my mind busy.

I wonder if all of this could cause the pains shootinh through my breast?

Please reply with your opinion

Thanks Cindy

Cindy, we're not doctors here, and can't diagnose. AllI can say is, this is a breast change, and if it doesn't disappear within a couple of weeks, best to see a doctor about it, OK? It could very well be due to all the stress you're going through; I'm sorry for your troubles... But do see a doctor if it doesn't disappear soon. As a survivor, you need to be extra-vigilant about reporting symptoms in and around your breast, even though it's unlikely they have anything to do with cancer. Hope you feel better soon - PJH
