Hello,   I somewhat had a similiar issue, I am 45 and was told by 3 Drs as well as a Board of Dr's that a Mastectomy is the best route. Reason being is... age does have a factor, as women get older their hormones play tricks on the body so the surgeons is looking down the road to protect her system for future problems. Yes,it is hard to decide but as many said to me "Get rid of the Problem"before it comes more of a problem," I am having my reconstruction surgery next week and now that I am done wit the Mastectomy I am actully glad I had it done.   Good Luck... to you and your wife
