Q: 72 yr old with mastectomy and one pos node. now in fec chemo is radiation needed?

i am a 72 yr old healthy normal weight female who exercises regularly. i am now in the midst of fec regimen. with 1 tumor 1-3.5 cm invasive ductal  and a second tumor 1-2.5 invasive lobular. 5 nodes examined and one was positive for carcinoma.  i went for the chemo even tho it only gave me a 7% advantage. over just mastectomy.  now i have to consider radiation.  will it give me any greater advantage.  is it worth the extra effort and side effects?  i need opinions  regarding this.

Hi - Wondering what the reason for radiation would be, since you had a mastectomy? Is the doctor worried that the tumor was close to your chest wall? Or does he/she want to irradiate your armpit, where the lymph node came out? I did FEC and had chemo and mastectomy, then did radiation in my armpit; I have to say, radiation was a piece of cake after everything else. So, I'd find out exactly why radiation is being considered; and then take it from there. Good luck - PJH
