Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Thursday, July 02, 2009 Sheridan S. Horn asks

Q: I get a mammogram once a year and they have come back normal. Almost 3 years ago I had endometrical

cancer and had a hysterectomy. I did not have to have any follow-up treatments. It was caught in the early stage. Considering my history, should I have a MBI? My mother had a brain tumor and her sister had breast cancer. Would I have a MBI instead of a mammogram or both.

Sheridan, luckily your family history of cancer does NOT raise your risk for breast cancer, nor does your endometrial cancer. I'd think, unless a doctor indicates otherwise, that a once-a-year mammogram would be fine, no MRI necessary. Good luck - PJH
