Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Q: Weird recurring "bites" on breast.

I say "bites" because that's the only way I can describe them. But lately, I have been noticing weird itchy bumps on my breast, just my right one. If I touch the bump, it doesn't hurt, or it's not sensitive. But, if I scratch it, it gets worse and starts to hurt. They are not on my areola or nipple, but the outside of it. And they aren't in a place that rubs against other skin. It's more toward the top of my breast. I checked my mattress for bed bugs, and got nothing. I've lived in my apartment for over a year, and this started happening just a month ago. They heal on their own in about a week and go away, but more pop up after the other ones heal. I haven't changed my routine, or even soaps or detergents lately. So this is really confusing me. Help, please?

It sounds like you have already eliminated all of the possibilities that can be treated with common sense home care.  Because you have had this problem a while, it's time to get a doctor involved--maybe a dermatologist since it sounds like this is a skin issue.  The good news is that if the problem were breast cancer, the "bites" wouldn't get better on their own.  Try really hard not to scratch; instead press hard with the palm of your hand so that you don't irritate the skin even more.  I haven't heard of this particular skin problem on the breast, so I'd be interested in hearing what it is when you find out.  I hope it is something that will respond quickly to treatment.
