What is a good compression glove for lymphedema of the back of the hand?
I have had a hard time maintaining reduction of the edema that I achieve with bandaging my hand. Wearing my compression glove seems to make the back of my hand worse than wearing no glove at all, yet I can't have my bandages on all the time....please help!
Lu, a compression sleeve that doesn't fit properly can actually make lymphedema worse, and as time goes by it is not unusual for sleeves to get stretched out or for your size to change. You probably need to go back to the person who taught you to bandage and get a custom-measured glove/sleeve. A ready-made might fit, but you'll need help in finding the right one. Your insurance is required to cover lymphedema costs that relate to breast cancer to the same extent that they cover similar problems.

Phyllis is right, Lu - I've worn just plain tight stretch gloves, and have also had a glove (without fingers) customer-fit to my hand. The custom-fit works better. And if you're had a mastectomy, group insurance has to cover the cost — it's the law. So best see the person who originally did your treatment, because he/she should be able to order a glove for you. Good luck - PJH
