last november 2003, i was operated from a breast mass. the result of biopsy is benign. when i felt another hard mass last november 2007, i went to an ob-gyne.she says it's not cancerous, i had an schedule of another operation last july but i ignore.now ifeel its getting bigger and painfull. will it be possible to become cancerous? i am 46 years old, my father died on bone cancer. i am afraid if its my genetic. please let me know if it is cancerous.

Hi - First of all, your father's bone cancer doesn't put you at added risk for breast cancer, so put that worry out of your head. But a mass that's getting bigger shouldn't be ignored. If you're 46, you should have been having regular mammograms. If you haven't been, put it in your mental caldndar to schedule one every year. And also ask your OB/GYN whey she's not worried about a lump that's been there awhile, is painful, and is growing. I'd think this would trigger some diagnostic testing: mammogram, MRI, ultrasound, something. In other words - you need to follow up with your doctor, not let this drop, OK? Good luck - PJH
