KW- Sorry I forgot to mention this on the PM you sent me, but PJ's response made me think of it.
Both surgeons I had dealt with warned me that with a FLAP procedure you're 1) looking at a longer more detailed surgery, plus recovery as they not only work on your breast but also cut out tissue from another region and 2) it does have a high rate of failure - but it also grows as your own body does with weight gain or loss....and also if you have had a radical mastectomy and are looking to be well endowed, your surgeon may do a combo of both a saline implant and take tissue from other areas to build up your breast to be large enough as my surgeon is having to do (as implants only come so big). Good luck making your decision.

Hi KW,
I'm going through it right now. I had a mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy two weeks ago, and I chose the expander/implant method. I have the tissue expander in right now, and my surgeon will insert the permanent implant in about a month.
So far, this whole process has not been that bad. I really thought that it would be very painful, but the tissue expander is just a little heavy and the skin feels a little tight. I've had saline put into the expander a few times, and I'm already seeing some potential in this soon-to-be new breast!! I'm really happy that I'm doing the reconstruction - it's doing wonders for my well being.
I wish you all the best :)
