Are you thinking about ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)?  If your doctor thinks you might have DCIS based on a mammogram or other imaging test, a biopsy would be required to confirm the possibility.  In fact, a biopsy is a routine part of diagnosing most solid tumor cancers.

I think the original writer wanted to know about biopsies and wasn't sure of the spelling.  A biopsy is a surgical procedure that takes a small piece of tissue to check for cancer or other health issues.
