Hi - Usually pain isn't associated with breast cancer, so the pain you're experiencing might be due to a cyst, or something hormonal connected with your period. I'm glad your doctor has scheduled you for a mammogram; and he's right, you neeed to wait till after your period to have it done most comfortably. If your breast seems infected; or becomes swollen, or itchy; or the redness spreads, then do go back and see your doctor, without waiting for the mammogram. In the meantime - please try not to stress. Worry doesn't accomplish a single thing, other than to make you feel bad! good luck to you - PJH
