Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Friday, September 12, 2008 Jolene Boyd asks

Q: Has anyone heard of research related to DCA??

Hi there!  Been a while since I posted--just up to "normal" life...whatever that is!  Recently passed my one year anniversary of diagnosis.  I had a physical and my first mammogram since surgery--everything came back "clean"...but now I find myself thinking "so what did they miss??"  I guess that's my new reality!

Anyway, I really wanted to post today to ask the question above:  Has anyone out there heard anything about research on a possible new drug for cancer treatment called dichloroacetate (DCA)?  A friend sent me a link to this article (http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn10971) and from there I went to this web site (http://www.depmed.ualberta.ca/dca/).  I see nothing new posted there since 2007 which makes me a bit skeptical, so I thought I would throw it out to our experts and community members.  Please provide whatever information you might have about this drug...  Thanks in advance!

Congratulations, Jolene! Hey, guess what? Bet they didn't miss anything... It gets easier as time goes by, trust me.

I found a few more current links. try this one from 7/8/08.

And this, the DCA Web site.

And this.

Caveat emptor. Reading through this stuff, it looks like it's been tested on animals, not tested on humans, and can be very dangerous.... Hard to tell what's true in Web-world. Good luck - PJH
