Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Q: I have a sore on the underside of one of my breasts. Should I be worried?

My breast has been itching on and off for the last few weeks. Three days ago I noticed a sore under my left breast. Should I be worried? I also have similar sores inside my mouth that I noticed around the same time. Could these be linked? My left breast aches.. and hurts when I wear my bra. Today I'm home sick with a very nauses stomach. I'm scared that all this could be linked.  My aunt passed away from cancer 2 years ago... When she had breast cancer I remember her telling me that sores would appear on her breasts too.

Lisa, sores on your breast aren't generally a breast cancer symptom. Nor are aching breasts, nor would there be a link between breast sores/mouth sores/cancer. There's a RARE form of breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer, that can start with itching, and what looks like a sore. So keep your eye on these symptoms; and if they don't disappear in a week or so (or if they get worse, e.g., your breast seems infected: hot, red, swollen, painful), then best to see a doctor to figure out what's going on, OK? Good luck - PJH
