Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Friday, September 25, 2009 restlessone asks

Q: What are the symptoms of lymph node cancer?

I had a double mastectomy 11 years ago this december.  I underwent 6 months of chemo.  I had a breast MRI done which showed enlarged lymph nodes.  I am now scheduled for a PET scan.  The docs called for all of my pre surgery mamograms, ultrasounds as well as the MRI's I have had over the past 10 1/2 years.  I have been experiencing extreem fatigue and sweats.  I just want to find out so I can deal with whatever it is.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this - it sounds like you're in the midst of testing now, which can be a stressful process. Multiple enlarged nodes, with accompanying fatigue and sweats, sounds like an infection to me. Seems if they were really suspecting cancer, they'd order a biopsy, right? So take heart - the vast majority of lumps in the breast and underarms are NOT cancer; hopefully you'll remain on the "right" side of those statistics. Good luck - PJH
