Q: Sharp pain inside my left breast pain and itchiness and flakiness in left areola? what could it be?

I am 32 years old and 3 weeks pregnant. I have been having this itch and sometimes pain in my left areola for about a year and half now...i had a biopsy in which the surgeon removed a piece of skin on my areola and the result was eczema. The ultrasound showed no lumps as well. How come it's only on my left breast and the itchiness and crustiness didn't go? I sometimes feel sharp pains inside my left breast and left side of my body.I've tried several creams like elocom, nipple moisturizers, uriage skin cream but the itchiness is still there. I am afraid I have Paget's or BC. Please advise.

Hi Gia - I'm not a doctor, but if this has been going on for 18 months, without much change in the skin issue, I don't believe it could be any kind of cancer; it would have advanced to something more serious by now. Also, pain is seldom a sign of breast cancer. That said, if you're feeling very stressed, why not make an appointment with a breast specialist? If a breasst specialist tells you not to worry about a breast issue (as oposed to your GP), I'd think that would allay your fears. Good luck - PJH
