Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Friday, May 22, 2009 C Collazo asks

Q: I am 42, last night I notice a lump on the lower part of my right breast and it is tender to touch.

This morning I woke up and it is still tender but the lump is not as big as it was yesterday. What could this be?

Hi - This could be a cyst, or what's called fibrocystic changes — both are very common in women your age, and the symptoms you describe seem to fit. Please read our post on FCC; I think it'll help you determine what you might be dealing with. And, you should probably still get it checked by a doctor, just to rule out any possibility of cancer, OK? Good luck - PJH
