Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Thursday, May 21, 2009 Nicola79 asks

Q: Should i be worried?

I am 30 years old and last year my nipple started to invert for no apparent reason, recently i've noticed its happening a lot more often. Although the nipple does not stay inverted its happening every day and quite regularly. I have looked at pictures of inverted nipples and none look like mine... when inverted the aerola is puckered like when a nipple is erect but the nipple itself totally disappears inside the aerola, should i be worried? My aunt had breast cancer but as we're not a close family i'm unsure if anyone else in my family ever had it.

Hi Nicola - Worried might be too strong a term, but I think you should be concerned enough to see a doctor about this. Any breast change that lasts longer then one menstrual cycle; and that seems to be worsening, as yours is, should be seen by a doctor. So make the call, OK? Good luck - PJH
