Q: Breast MRI

Hello Guys,

I have just been booked for a breast MRI with about 4 weeks wait. When I questioned them about the long wait they said it has to do with my menstral period, is the always the case because am thinking of having this done in a private clinic. 4 weeks wait another 1 week for the result and God knows how long I have to wait for the surgery again. Waiting is a big deal when u know u have breast cancer and everyday counts.

Please i need your advice

Hi - I agree with Chris. Though waiting is stressful, if that's the way it has to be for the MRI to be administered effectively, then that's the way it has to be. In general, breast cancer is very slow-growing; while you want it out RIGHT NOW, waiting a few extra weeks probably won't make any difference. Good luck - PJH

My girl friend was diagnosed in early April w/invasive carcinoma to her right breast. She too had to wait (over three wks) to have her breast MRI for the same reason. That was the only test though that she had to wait a long time to have, once it was done her surgery was scheduled for three days after the results of her Breast MRI. She has had two additional Breast MRI's since her surgery, one every three months for the first year. She still has to have these scheduled around her menstral cycle. Evidently it is very important - something to do with the density of the breast tissue.

Hope that helps. Also, they were able to remove all the cancer and she had no problems getting thru her radiation treatments.

As a survivor I have to admit the waiting for each of the tests results seem to be a real challenge. Have faith and a positive attitude and believe in your Doctors.
