Q: Loss of Hair

I have read and heard a lot that chemotheraphy makes you loss your hair. Is it a common thing? Is it a total loss of hair or partial and you then get frustrated with the look and shave it off. Has anybody got through chemo, without losing their hair?

Already thinking of going bald before the chemo but thought may be I should throw the question out there, if perhaps It may not be necessary( wishful thinking)

Will really love to know.

Stay blessed

Hi - It's true, though most chemo makes you lose your hair, not all of it does. If you know the specific drugs you'll be getting, we can probably tell you if hair loss is a given. Most women lose all their hair - like, ALL their hair (eyebrows, eyelashes, underarm, pubic, head); some just experience thinning hair on their head, and keep the rest. And then it grows back, often curly if it was straight, or straight if it was curly - and often a different color. It's quite an interesting experience, once you get over being horrified (and don't worry - you get used to it). Good luck - and stay in touch here, OK? We can help. PJH

I know someone who cut off all his long beautiful raven-black hair in preperation for chemo. Turns out he didn't need to because his reaction to chemo did not cause hair loss as his began growing back immediately during chemo. He has his long blue-black hair back and is cancer free. You could opt to shave it now or wait and see if it falls out when being washed. I pray this does not happen but if you see lots of hair coming out then that might be a good time to shave it. If only small amounts fall out another option is a short haircut. Mine fell out in tiny patches that were easily covered up with a short haircut.

I lost all my hair .I was a bald as a new born baby. It is now over five months and no body hair has returned . I do however, have a  a thick piece in the middle of my head. I was dark it has returned blonde. Now this would not be a problem if I were 20 years old as I would die it purple and have my nose pierced. But being 54 I have continued with my wigs. Somehow the Mohican look is not for me. However, have saved a fortune on razors and deodorant as I am without BO also.I have thought of having a hair transplant but may need chemo again at a later stage...A transplant is not cheap so I shall wait and hope my hair will one day return.
