Lumps that come up suddenly and that are tender to the touch can be harmless cysts, but there is always the chance that any breast lump could be cancer. When hormones are fluctuating with the beginning of menopause, breast changes are often related to the hormonal changes. Depending on her schedule and her level of anxiety, your wife could watch a few days and see if it goes away by itself. However, any breast changes that last longer than a month definitely need to be checked out by a doctor. If she has finished menopause, it would be a good idea to go ahead and schedule a check-up. I hope she gets good news.
