Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Q: Pea sized lump found two days out from radiation

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Nov 08, I had a radical mastectomy of my right breast.  They found I had two tumors, one was invasive ductal carcinoma Stage I, grade I, and the other was invasive lobular Stage II, grade II, with 4 out of 12 nodes positive.  I was treated with 16 rounds of chemotherapy (I finished 13..stopped short due to neuropathy), and 33 rounds of radiation to the mastectomy area and chest wall.  Two days out from finishing the radiation treatment I have found a hard pea sized lump in the area where I had the radiation.  I am seeing my surgeon on Wednesday.  My question is after all the treatment could they have missed this? Also, has anyone ever had a clogged pore due to all the cream used on the skin for radiation?

Hi - This could very well be some scarring from the radiation. I've never heard of a clogged pore from cream, but I guess it might be that, too. At any rate, I'm glad you're seeing someone this week - you'll get a definitve answer quickly, so you don't have to spend a lot of time worrying. Good luck - PJH
