Q: Hi,Ive been down with a viral flu for the past week, and now a sharp pain under my left arm pit

Hi,

Ive been down with a bad sore throat, cough, cold and a viral flu the whole of last week. Had a fbc done yday, and it said that my lymphocytes were 50% which is a bit high, and  think is because of the virl infection. From last night, Ive been having this sharp pain under my left arm pit, that lasts only for a few seconds, adn goes off, it keeps repeating about 5-6 times aday, and now I noticed that theres a slight swelling there. Could it be something serious, or just a result of the flu. Please get back to me soon, as Im scared to death. Im 27 yrs of age.

regards,

Hi - Please don't be scared. This sounds very much like an infected lymph node, which would be natural given your bout with the flu. Since you're clearly under treatment anyway, mention this to the doctor next time you check in. I'm guessing it'll abate as you gradually recover from the flu; but if it isn't gone in a couple of weeks - or if it gets worse - best to see the doctor sooner, OK? Good luck - PJH
