Intense itch on nipple

Donna
07/30/08

Last night I experienced an intense itching of my right nipple.  This is the same breast that I had a biopsy on 1 1/2 years ago.  It felt hot inside, as well as to the touch.  Bright red color.  Not as bad today, but still some itching is present.  Should I be concerned?

Donna, you should ALWAYS be concerned about breast changes. Not panicked - aware and concerned. An itchy nipple can be the result of all kinds of things. It could indeed be a symptom of one of the rarer breast cancers... Paget's disease, or inflammatory breast cancer. Probably unlikely, but possible. I'd say keep your eye on it, and if the itchiness/redness doesn't disappear in a matter of days, or if it gets worse, go ahead and make a doctor's appointment. Again, don't stress; just be responsible about your health. OK? Good luck - PJH
