Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Tuesday, August 05, 2008 Donna asks

Q: I am still experiencing problems with the nipple which had intense itching a few days ago.

I wrote a couple of days ago regarding an intense itching in my right nipple. I thought maybe it was getting a little better, but today the itch is worse again, my nipple appears bright red and swollen, and is now sore to the touch.  It actually feels kind of hard now, and I have small red rash starting on the bottom part of my breast under the swelling.  Any idea what could be causing this?  Any suggestions on what I can use on it to help with the itching?

Thanks,

Donna

Donna, it's definitely time to get the doctor involved.  The kind of treatment that will help the itching will depend on the what is causing it, and rashes are notoriously difficult to diagnose.  Using the wrong type of ointment might make the situation worse.  Please get checked out, so that you can get treatment that will make you feel better.
