Q: I have been having pain and warming sensation on left breast that goes to the back of my shoulder

I have been having breast pain on my left breast on and off for 4 years. I have had several breast exams they feel nothing. There is a certain area on breast that is very sensitive to touch and my breast also feels very warm inside. I also get pain under my armpit that travels to my should blade.  Both grandmothers dies from BC in their mid 60's and 70's I am very scared. I have 2 young children and am a single mom. I have my first mammo today. I am 36 yrs old.

Hi - It's good to be diligent about odd sensations or changes in your breast, especially with your family history. But please try not to be scared. You've had a mammogram, whcih is the best way we have to protect ourselves. And burning/pain for 4 years isn't a breast cancer symptom, or at least no symptom I've ever seen listed anywhere. So it's probably a nerve issue of some kind, or maybe something hormonal - does it seem to come and go with your period? Anyway, good luck with the mammogram results, and stay connected here, OK? We can help. PJH

Sheri, if you haven't had a mammogram or MRI, you might ask if those would be appropriate tests to continue the diagnostic process. Also, since this sems to be an issue your regular doctor can't seem to resolve, perhaps you should be referred to a breast specialist, OK? Good luck - PJH

I think you should read up about IBC.  Inflammatory breast cancer

Thank you!  I've been looking things up and found info on IBC. I have a warm spot and very small lump in my left breast.  I'm not sure what to make of it. But read that IBC is a very aggresive cancer and should be looked into quickly.

I have almost the same complaint as you. I have been experiencing a warm  feeling inside my left breast. I dont feel like this on my right breast. I started feeling this 3 years ago, I had mammogram that time but nothing. My fault though, was I didnt undergo ultrasound which was advised bec. I have a dense breast. My doctor now suspects some hormonal changes bec. I was using oral contraceptives. She advised me to stop OC and wait after 2 months. If I still feel feel warm after that time then I'll undergo mammo. Now my problem is I dont know if I still can wait for that time. Im very worried now esp. after reading abt. IBC/ Inflammatory Breast cancer.  Please if you now have answers to your/our queries pls. share the info. tnx

Hi - IBC symptoms don't go on for 3 years - or even 3 months - without quickly developing into something obviously serious. Please read our post on IBC; I think it may help de-stress you. Good luck - PJH

I have the warming sensation as well, left breast, but have a pacemaker, it has been going on for a couple of months-I am calling tomorrow.. I trying not to get worried until I have something to worry about, but you know how that is, it was really warming up today, so this is how I found this site.

I think by now, if it was IBC, you would have noticed more definite symptoms; so please try not to worry too much about that. But good you're calling the doctor - it's always smart to be diligent about your health, and to take action when you notice a worrisome symptom. Good luck - PJH
