Q: Is it common to have blood in the stool after a bilateral mastectomy? I finally had a bowel movement - it was a little hard and there was definitely blood in the stool.

Mattie, this is probably due to constipation, which is common in many people after any kind of surgery; it's not specifically related to a mastectomy. Report this to your surgeon, as you would any side effect of surgery; the nurse may prescribe you a stool softener, to help you get "back to normal." Take care - PJH
