Q: Two types of breast cancer and delayed chemo because of an infection? Will this affect prognosis?

my daughter has two types of breast cancer, ductal (stage 1) and lobular (stage 2). Is the treatment the same for both.  Also the chemo has been delayed because of an

infection; will this delay affect the prognosis?

Hi - Yes, the treatment for ductal and lobular cancers are generally the same: surgery, and then depending on what the pathology report shows (including whether there's  lymph node involvement), radiation and/or chemo and/or long-term hormone therapy or another targeted therapy drug. Since she's already had surgery and is scheduled for chemo, I'm assuming lymph node involvement. Chemo is often delayed, for reasons ranging from healing from surgery, to a backup in the chemo schedule at the hospital. Personally, I didn't start chemo till 3 months post-diagnosis. In general, breast cancer is quite slow-gorwing, so waiting a few weeks for an infection to heal shouldn't be an issue. And if it was, I'm sure her oncologist would have figured something out. Good luck - PJH
