Will I loose errogenous feeling in the non cancer breast if I use the areola of the healthy breast?

Topics:nipple reconstruction

My plastic surgeon suggested using the areola of the non cancerous breast to construct the nipple of the reconstructed breast.  I have always had errogenous breast and do not wish to eliminate any of what is left. (I had a biopsy in that breast already)  I am opting to have that breast (right) minimized slightly to match the side with the implant.  My doc says they are going through the areola anyways.  Has anyone any experience in loss of feeling?

Sorry - I think, since only your surgeon knows the particulars of your operation, only (s)he can answer this question. Nerve damage is a tricky thing, and it will depend entirely on the path of the surgeon's scalpel. I hope the surgeon is able to preserve your nipple and the feeling in it; if (s)he possibly can, there are certainly other ways to construct a nipple, using other parts of your body. Good luck - PJH
