I had surgery last year for breast cancer and developed lymphedema about 2 months after the surgery. I was wondering if this will ever go away or will i have to continue to manage it with massage theraphy? Also i was told by my surgeon NOT to carry anything on the affected side or lift anything over 10-15 lbs, is this true?

Hi Michele - There's a lot of conflicting information about lymphedema out there, as far as whether/when to challenge your arm; please read our post covering the latest on this subject. Also, please read our series of lymphedema FAQS for lots of good information. You'll probably find that it abates over time. You'll always have to think about it, but it should definitely get better, easier to handle. Good luck - PJH
