Q: Pain in right breast for several months. Ultrasound detected 2 nodules 4cm apart in milk duct under nipple. Biopsy scheduled; titanum chip to be inserted. Any risk of biopsy releasing cancer cells?

I've had pain in my right breast for several months. Ultrasound detected 2 nodules 4cm apart in milk duct under nipple. I have an ultrasound guided biopsy scheduled and have been told that a titanum chip will be inserted where the samples are taken (10 samples in all).

Hi - Please read our biopsy post for lots of helpful information about this procedure. It's a common myth that biopsy can "release" cancer cells. No evidence exists that this is true, so please don't worry about that. The titanium clip will be guided by ultrasound to the exact location of the nodules, and will show the person administering the biopsy exactly where to take samples from.

Best of luck as you go through this; I hope you get good results. PJH
