Hi Barb - If you have a suspicious area on your mammogram that hasn't been identified as anything specific yet, my advice is to go ahead and get the biopsy. An ultrasound will show if a suspicious area is a cyst, but it can't rule cancer in or out. I don't believe any doctor would tell you not to get a biopsy, for fear of putting him/herself at risk of a malpractice lawsuit; so I doubt a second opinion would do you any good.
Are you afraid of the procedure, or don't have insurance, or....? You can choose whether or not to have it, but you should know that the ONLY way to identify cancer is via biopsy; so unless/until you get one, you won't know if what the mammogram saw is cancer. Good luck with this decision - PJH
