Well, your skin sounds dry, if it's flaking; that could be the reason for the itching. But as for the pain, not sure what that could be. If it doesn't start to get better on its own within a week; or certainly if it gets worse - if your breast seems infected (red, hot, swollen, painful), then you should see a doctor ASAP; the same doctor you've been seeing, or a new one, if you don't think the original doctor is taking you seriously. A painful, itchy breast can be a sign of a rare type of cancer, inflammatory breast cancer. And while the symptoms you describe don't really sound like IBC, you should at least be aware of it. An ultrasound wouldn't rule it out; so if you continue to have issues, you might mention IBC, and ask for a mammogram. Good luck to you - I hope this resolves on its own soon. PJH

Hally, this sounds like a skin problem, not a breast cancer one, especially since the doctor did the ultrasound and everything checked out OK.  This link to an article on itchy breasts will give you some background information on what might be causing your symptoms.  If simple home remedies like using an unscented moisturizer for sensitive skin don't work, call the doctor back and let him know about your new symptoms.  Of course, if you notice new problems like swelling, redness, or increasing pain, then go back to the doctor right away.  In the meantime, try not to scratch.  Press firmly with the palm of your hand on the itching area.  Scratching just makes the problem worse.
