Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Thursday, August 20, 2009 Beth L asks

Q: What about the drug femara 2.5 /aromasin 25mg.

Hi, I am new to this post. I have had breast cancer in 1998. Had a lumpectomy. Once again I was told that i had breast cancer again ,same breast, same spot in 2005. had lumpectomy again. Then once again I was told it was back. same breast in 2007. I had a bi-lateral mastectomy at this time. Once again I have been told after the mastectomy that it had returned but had advanced to my spine area. The L1 verterbrae in the bone. It had collasped the verterbrae. I had to have a kyeoplasty. May have spelled this incorrect. But they put cement in my verterbrae. I also had reconstruction in 2007 as well. I am so---tired as all of us are I am sure. They put me on the drug Femara. I loss my sight with this as well as  chest pain. Thank the Lord I only loss sight for a few minutes. But i was told to stop femara. My oncologist wants me to now have a stress test done by a cardioligist. Due to being tired the eye sight problem/ chest pain. They have me starting on yhe drug aromasin 25 mg. Start taking this after the appt with the heart Dr. I need to be on this for (life) I am told. My cancer is hormone receptive. The drugs have so-- many bad se I am not certain what to do. Is there anyone out there who has had this problem? If so any Info I may be able to  use. would appreciate anything that could help me. Ty Beth L

Beth, I'm so sorry you've had to go through all of this. You've certainly had more than your share of challenges. I hope the Aromasin has fewer side effects than the Femara; although they're both aromatase inhibitors, they do have different side effects. Readers, can anyone offer Beth any advice about coping with possible Aromasin side effects? Thanks - PJH

Thank you. I am just thankful to God that I am still here among the living. I have decided to stay on the Femara. One I feel is as bad as the other as far as se. The oncoligist says I have to take it for life. So I need all the prayers I can get. Prayer is the most inportant thing.

Hi, Adriana, Sorry, I haven't been on line for some time now as you can tell. The Dr. did the same thing to me as well. She told me to start taking Aromasin as well. I prayed hard about this. I decided to stop (all) of it. I haven't taken anything sine August, I beleive. I am by No means telling others to follow my lead. We (all) have to make this decesion ourselves. I asked the church to pray for my healing. I know that the Lord has healed my body of cancer. I thank Him & give Him all the Glory and  Praise for this. Yes, Praise God, He is in Control of everything and everyone. I do not know what the future holds for me, however, I do know who is in Control of the future, and I trust Him with (all) that is within me. I will pray for you as well. You two are A Warrior. This desease brings (all) women together in some way. We can all be there for one another & bring Strengh to one another. You continue to hold on to the Lord. Not looking to the  left or right but straight ahead, beleiving and knowing that He is Lord of us all and all things. I pray that He  gives you strength & courage. Know that  when times are diffucult, He will carry you. He will never leave or forsake us. Remember this always. John 10:10  The thief cometh not , but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have (life), and that they might have it more abundantly.  (king James version. )  I beleive in life mor abundantly and I beleive that you do as well. I pray that the Good lord keep you and your loved ones safe from all harm and deseases. a child of The Living God. Beth

Hi Beth: You made your decision based in your prayers and what God has been telling you! If He told you to stop taking the medicines, I think is OK, but remember that God made possible the discover of new "drugs" to help us .... but still, side effects are to some of us a big deal! I'm now finishing my new bootle of Aromasin. I read that Arimidex (I don't remember the name) has more bad side effects than Aromasin, I'm praying to see if I still in this one or the other... but I think that Our Lord is comming soon!!!!Praise to HIM!!!!!! so, we don't need to be worry, and if He lets us to pass again for everything, He surly will carry us in His Hands like the first time. He has His purpose for us, and this experience has been a blessings for many people around us. If He choose to use us for His Glory keeping us in this situation, I am ready! We need to wittness at all times, all places... Ishaias 41:10 God Bless you my sister!!!

Hi Adriana,

Good to hear from you. I asked the Pastor to pray for me, that I would be healed from this cancer. I beleive that I received that healing & that my cancer is gone. If I were to continue to take the meds. ,then i would be saying in effect that I did not beleive that I received my healing. I beleive in the Power of healing. I know that the Lord answered my prayer. Praise God!!!!. I agree that there are new meds that are helping keep this desease at bay & if caught in time, even curing the desease. I am glad that you  are finishing your bottle of aromasin. I pray that you have no side effects & that you can continue to take it as long as needed. I two beleive that The Good Lord is comming (Soon)!!! Glory Be To God !!!(king James) second corinthians chp. 1 verse 9 says. But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead : (10) Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver ; in whom we trust that He will yet deliver us; I beleive that He has delivered me from this desease. I thank Him and  give Him all the Glory and Praise. Because He is worthy to be Praised !!!!!!! I realize there are those that do not beleive as I do. This is o.k.  I am at complete peace with God. You are right , He will carry us & He does have a purpose for us. I pray that this has been a Blessing to those around us. I am also ready to be used for His Glory if He so chooses. You have been a wittness to me & I pray that i two have been one to you as well. I can feel the Love of our Father in your words. Take care  and God Bless you my sister!!!!!

Beth, I'm sorry you've had to go through all of these multiple bouts of cancer... I think if you trust your oncologist, you'd probably best do what s/he says, stressful though it is. Readers, does anyone have any thoughts for Beth? PJH

PJ, thank you. I do trust in my oncologist. But there comes a time in ones life that (we) have to make a decesion that is Best for ourselves. I feel that I have done this by stopping medicines that give you No quality of life. Quanity (maybe). bur certainly not (Quality). This however is not the case with some. I would (never) tell anyone to stop their meds. They have to make their own minds up on what is Best for them. Some meds. are not good for everyone. The side effects are devastating. If I would have kept taking them, I would have been in bed or in a wheel chair for life. I truly  beleive this. I trust my oncologist. But I trust The Lord in all things. I beleive He has given me the knowledge to make a sound decesion about (my) life. No one elses. I pray for (all) of us that fight this horific desease. But in the end , when all is said ,tried, & done , we all should make our own decesions . I beleive there are many who can take these meds & they work wonderful for them. And I truly thank the Good lord that it works for them. However there is a few of us that cannot take them. Thank the Lord when all is said & done. That the Lords word was & Is the first word spoken & thank God ,His word will always be the last word  spoken. My life is in His hands to do as He will with my life. Whatever this may or may not be. Keep me in your prayers as I will all of those who need His Blessings. A child of The Living God  Beth

PJ,Innocent I thank the Lord that we all have this place to connect & share with one another. I read as many as I can. I try to pray for all of (Us). Prayer is a powerful weapon. I will always , as all of us here will, have a heart for those with cancer. We share our hearts & soul with one another here & I beleive that it helps each one of us to do so. If anyone here needs prayer, please let me know & I will write your names down & I will pray for each one of you. The Lord has been so Good to me. I take each day as you have stated many times. (One Day at a time). I give it all to the Lord. He is in Control of everything. I rest easy knowing this. Take care & keep up your wonderful work on here. You are truly a Blessing to me as I am sure you are to others.   (A child of The Living God )     Beth
